Abstract

This study discusses the role of the European Union in lifting the Myanmar economic embargo in 2013. This study uses a qualitative approach and descriptive analysis method. Researchers explained about the History of Myanmr starting to be embargoed and human rights cases that occurred in the country and the role of the European Union in lifting the economic embargo in the country. Cases of human rights violations that have occurred against civilians in Myanmar carried out by the Myanmar military itself have been going on for a long time since the country was couped until now, it continues unresolved. The case of human rights violations that occurred in Myanmar has become an international issue because this country has also been embargoed in the economy to its weapons until now. In 2013 the country of Myanmar began to democratize carried out by Thein Sein who served as president, the policies carried out by the president at that time became Myanmar's first step in the changes that received support and appreciation from many parties, both the state and international organizations. After the realization of democratization in Myanmar and changes to address human rights violations in the country carried out by the military, the European Union has a role in Myanmar's democratization and the form in this role is a policy taken by the European Union in development in Myanmar.
