Author Guidelines

Budi Luhur Journal of Contemporary Diplomacy (BALCONY)

1. The article must align with the focus and scope of the Budi Luhur Journal of Contemporary Diplomacy (BALCONY). It should present research findings, conceptual ideas, scientific developments in a specific field, or theory application studies, and the text should be written in either Bahasa or English.
2. The article contains the title, author's name, affiliation (department, faculty, university/institution, country), and the Author's corresponding email; Abstract (Bahasa and English), Keywords, Introduction, Theoretical/Conceptual Framework, Method, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, and References.
3. The manuscript was typed using Microsoft Word, employing a Times New Roman font set to 12 pt. It is formatted in justified alignment with 1.5 line spacing. The layout consists of two columns on A4-size paper, with a left margin of 3.5 cm and margins of 3 cm on the right, top, and bottom edges.
4. It is written in 5000 to 8000 words (including Reference) in the form Introduction-Methodology-Result-Analysis-Discussion style (IMRAD).
5. The article should adhere to APA style 6th edition and is expected to utilize reference management tools such as Mendeley, Zotero, and EndNote.
6. The manuscript must be free from plagiarism. Self-check must be done before the submission. It should be under 20% of unique.

Title of Article (14pt, bold, centered)

The Title should be brief and clear, not exceeding 20 words for Bahasa Indonesia or 18 words for English, all caps, Times New Roman 14 pt, single-spaced (spacing 1) bold, centered.

Author Identity

3) Author's email address, affiliation, or institutional email is preferred (10 pt)

Abstract (11pt, Italic, Bold)

Abstracts must be written in both Indonesian and English. For articles written in English, the abstract should be formatted with the Indonesian text in italics, followed by the English version. Conversely, for articles written in Indonesian, the abstract should begin with the English text, followed by the Indonesian version. The abstract serves as the core summary of the research, presented in one paragraph that briefly describes the objectives, theories, methods, results, and conclusions or findings. It must be single-spaced and contain between 100 and 150 words. Use Times New Roman font, size 11, and apply left indentation.

Keyword (11pt, Italic, Bold)

Please provide 3 to 5 keywords (words or phrases) that capture the concept of the article and will aid in internet searches. The keywords should be listed in alphabetical order, written in italic, lowercase letters, with a single line spacing (1.0) in Times New Roman font size 11. Please separate the keywords using semicolons (;). There should be spacing before and after the text.

INTRODUCTION (Capital letter, Times New Roman 12 pt, Bold, Indent Left)

The introduction presents the background of the study and highlights the issues arising from the imbalance between "das Sein" (empirical conditions/reality) and "das Sollen" (ideal conditions/theoretical level). It is completed with a discussion of relevant previous research to identify gaps in the analysis and clarify the author's position in this study, as well as the new contributions made (novelty). End with the research question, the author's argument, and the purpose of writing the article. (12 pt)

ANALYSIS FRAMEWORK (Capital letter, Times New Roman 12 pt, Bold, Indent Left)

The analytical framework contains the theories, concepts, approaches, or perspectives/paradigms used to analyze the cases or topics of study. The naming of the analytical framework can be adjusted or replaced by using a name/term that reflects the conceptual or theoretical framework used (for example: Liberalism in Interdependence Relations). (12 pt)

RESEARCH METHOD (Capital letter, Times New Roman 12 pt, Bold, Indent Left)

The research method outlines the approach used in this study. The author(s) must detail the research procedures, data sources, data collection techniques, and data analysis methods. (12 pt)

RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS (Capital letter, Times New Roman 12 pt, Bold, Indent Left)

The results and discussion section presents the study's outcomes alongside a thorough analysis that addresses the research questions. The author(s) should also discuss the findings, providing strong reasoning supported by details from credible sources, such as scientific journals, books, and other reliable references. (12 pt).

In this section, the author can add separate sections (subsections and sub-sections), figures, and tables.

CONCLUSION (Capital letter, Times New Roman 12 pt, Bold, Indent Left)

The conclusion section does not include repetition or excerpts from the discussion. It provides a concluding paragraph along with implications, limitations, and suggestions for further study. (12 pt)

Subsection, Figures and Tables, Quotation

Subsection

Title of sub-section (capitalize each word, Times New Roman 12 pt, Italic, Indent Left).

Subsections, one or several, are possible to discuss things that cannot be combined with others, by ordering them according to elements, components, or variables within the analytical framework.

Figures and Tables (Times New Roman 12 pt, bold, Indent Left)

Figures and tables are placed in the body of the sentence or paragraph and numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, and so on) and written with a caption and source of the figure and table. The table captions are written above the table (12pt, Bold), while the figure captions are below the figure (10pt, Indent Left).

Quotations

The manuscript uses a direct quote system. Quotations that are less than 5 (five) lines are combined in the text, while quotations with more than 4 (five) lines are separated from the text with a spacing of 1.5 pt and enclosed in quotation marks. The author's surname is written before or after the quote. The author's sir name is written in parentheses followed by a comma, the year of publication followed by a colon, and then the page number as written as follows (Bryan, 1998: 57). If the author is more than three people, only the first author's sir name appeared followed by et al., like the following example (Berry et al., 2009: 87). If the subject matter is in several pages, then the method of writing is as follows (Bryan, 1998: 57-63), or if the subject matter is the entire text, then the method of writing is as follows (Blake, 1998).

References must include all sources cited in the article. All sources should be published within the last ten years unless the study is historical. Sixty percent (60%) of the references must be from journal articles. References should be managed using Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote, and follow APA style, sixth edition. (12 pt).
