Abstract

During the presidency of President Yoon Seok Yeol, South Korea has been making efforts to draw closer to Japan for the sake of strengthening regional security. At the same time, the Japanese government under the leadership of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has also been open to the opportunity to draw closer to South Korea. As an effort to improve bilateral relations with Japan, South Korea has been leveraging the rapidly growing popularity of music in Japan. This research aims to describe the contribution of music in cultural diplomacy between South Korea and Japan during the Yoon Seok Yeol administration, using the paradigm of Liberalism and the concept of soft power. The method used by the author in this research is qualitative with descriptive data sourced from literature studies. The results of this study show that President Yoon Seok Yeol, in his approach to Japan, has utilized music as part of cultural diplomacy. President Yoon Seok Yeol, in every musical diplomacy, has sought to bring the people of both countries closer through various activities such as cultural exchanges and music concerts.
