Abstract

This study examines regional security cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore from realist and institutionalist perspectives. The research question is how these two perspectives can explain and complement each other in understanding the role and interests of both countries in achieving balanced and mutually beneficial goals in their region. The study employs a qualitative method, collecting data from secondary sources, including books, journals, reports, and official statements. The results show that both perspectives have strengths and weaknesses in analyzing regional security issues, including military balance, economic integration, political stability, and social cohesion. The conclusion is that combining both perspectives can provide a more comprehensive and nuanced understanding of regional security cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore and offer recommendations for enhancing collaboration in addressing common challenges. Territorial security activities in one area involve efforts to protect the existence of two or more countries, characterized by the protection of sovereignty, population, and territory from various types of threats. This conception is part of an understanding of national security, the essence of which is "the ability of the state to protect what is determined as core values, where the attainment is a continuous process, by using all available elements of power and resources”, as well as covering all aspects of life, it is the basis of the agreement of the two governments of Indonesia and Singapore to enact the 2007 Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA) and its Implementation Arrangements between the Singapore Armed Forces and the Indonesian Armed Forces for the Military Training Area in Indonesia.
