Abstract

In an effort to realize the welfare of its people, the state may not be able to meet its own needs, because in a country it is impossible for all the necessary needs to be contained in one country. Therefore, there is a need for bilateral cooperation or cooperation between the two countries. Likewise in addressing security challenges in the Asia Pacific. Not simply that, terrorism as a transnational crime will be very difficult if it is carried out by only one country so that regional cooperation is needed to build regional defense and security. Therefore, the Indonesian and Australian governments have jointly established a training and education institution, namely, the Jakarta Centre for Law Enforcement Cooperation (JCLEC). This institution was established to investigate cases of terrorism and transnational crime in the Asia Pacific region. This study discusses the bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Australia in the field of defense and security through JCLEC in preventing the occurrence of terrorism after the Bali bombings. This study also discusses the strategies used by JCLEC in preventing terrorism. This research uses the literature study method in collecting information and data that can be obtained from books, scientific works, theses, dissertations, encyclopedias, internet, and other sources. The results of this study show the strategies and steps taken by JCLEC in combating terrorism in Indonesia.
