Abstract

This qualitative study aims to analyze the effort of Catalonia authority to separated his region from Spain. This study used the theory of democracy and referendum. The results show that Catalonia authorities has effort to separated his region from the Spain.  Catalunya seeks to separate itself from Spain because the region has a different background and culture from the Spain. Catalonia region has abundant natural resources, such as wine and olive oil producers and  has good places of vacation destination especially beaches and a lso have a great football club in the world is FC Barcelona. Catalunya is also the center of the largest petrochemical industry in Spain where about 40% of the industry is built in the region. Catalunya itself is one of the biggest giver of input through i ts taxes of about 20% towards Spanish state revenues. Because of this and was encouraged by other political factors by the abolition of the special autonomous region and the injustices that occurred in the region, the Catalunya authorities made an effort by mobilizing the Catalunya community and holding a  referendum in order to secede from Spain.
