Abstract

This study aims to explain the Indonesian Government’s Strategies to Obtain UNESCO Recognition as a UNESCO Global Geopark (Cased Study: Mount Rinjani Area 2013-2018). In this study. The author use international organizational theory and strategy concept. This research is a qualitative research. The results of this study indicate that the efforts and strategies carried out involve several actors in the process of building and developing the Rinjani Geopark towards the UNESCO Global Geopark. The actors involved consist of the government acting as official actors or state delegations which include the central government and local governments. Apart from state actors, non-state actors also play a role in the formation and development of this geopark. The government and other stakeholders have implemented various effective strategies by establishing a management agency with their respective divisions and duties to control the inauguration process, establish the rule of law as benchmarks in the development process of the Rinjani Geopark, carry out promotions in various meetings and international conferences, as well as promotion on social media and electronic media to increase Indonesian tourism and the number of tourist visits, collaborate with other geoparks, universities and other research bodies to support the pillars and elements of the geopark by sharing information related to studies or research conducted in Rinjani-Lombok Geopark area, as well as developing tourism and human resources to prepare international tourism destinations.
