Abstract

This research is a study aimed to explain Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy efforts towards Thailand through Indonesian cultural activities. To analyze these problems, this study uses a constructivism perspective. The periodization of this research is limited between 2020-2022, when the Covid-19 pandemic hit in both countries. This research is qualitative research using constructivism theories, the concept of cultural diplomacy and the concept of public diplomacy. The results of the study show that Indonesia uses its cultural activities to achieve effective cultural diplomacy efforts towards Thailand. This effort is carried out by carrying out three (3) principles in cultural diplomacy. The first principle is the principle of transmission, on this principle Indonesia carries out its cultural dissemination through cultural activities that are disseminated by several stakeholders such as the government and non-governmental organizations. The next principle is acceptance, this involves assessing activities based on the response from Thai society, gauged through the resulting positive perception, which in turn drives economic growth in the tourism sector. Finally, the last principle is the principle of coexistence. This principle underscores Indonesia's strategic deployment of diplomacy to advance its national interests, by employing culture as a non-coercive and peaceful approach to elicit a positive response from Thai society.
